Xueqing (Harper) Sun is a composer and researcher with a strong passion for film music. From 2019 to 2023, Xueqing studied Music for New Media at the Peabody Institute, where she received training in compositional writing ranging from classical composition to electronic scoring. Following the completion of her undergraduate studies, she pursued a Master’s degree in Composition for Screen at the Royal College of Music in London. There, she further refined her compositional techniques, engaged in a wide range of collaborative projects, and gained extensive hands-on experience in professional screen scoring industry. During her studies in London, particularly as technological innovation entered mainstream discourse in 2024, Xueqing developed a growing interest in examining the underlying nature of film music. Her focus expanded beyond the practical question of how to compose music effectively for film to a broader inquiry into the relationship between music, technology, and audience perception in film contexts. In 2025, Xueqing enrolled in the Music Technology master’s program at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she concentrates on observing, analyzing, and investigating the effects of film music on audience emotion and cognition. Her research interests include, but are not limited to, the narrative functions of film music, the influence of acoustic characteristics and compositional techniques on audience perception, and the diverse collaborative practices among creators in film production.
